Environmental & Sustainability

ESSA prioritizes environmental and biodiversity aspects in all its business activities and always emphasizes compliance with environmental regulations. In terms of environmental management, ESSA has achieved the “GOLD PROPER” rating at the Banggai Ammonia Plant (BAP) and the “BLUE PROPER” rating at the Palembang LPG Plant (PLP) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the environmental management systems implemented. Additionally, ESSA has obtained the ISO 14001:2015 certification for the Environmental Management System from TUV-NORD Indonesia.
In addition to focusing on implementing environmental management systems in accordance with applicable regulations, ESSA also actively supports the conservation of rare or endemic wildlife in its operational areas. One of the programs supported is the Maleo Bird Conservation Program.
Thus, ESSA is not only committed to environmental sustainability in its operations but also plays a role in the conservation of biodiversity.

Through sustainable and continuous management, ESSA aims to improve the quality of the surrounding environment while maintaining operational efficiency. These proactive measures reflect ESSA’s commitment to ensuring that every aspect of its operations not only considers environmental sustainability but also contributes positively to the environment.

One of ESSA’s commitments to environmental management is reflected in its biodiversity protection program, which supports the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15 for 2030. This goal aims to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, restore degraded land, and halt biodiversity loss through conservation programs.

ESSA has been carrying out this conservation initiative since 2016 and has released 410 Maleo birds into their natural habitat, contributing 4.54% to the national target of increasing the population of 25 priority wildlife species by 10% compared to the 2019 baseline (as set by the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation – KSDAE) for the 2023–2025 period.
